The eruption of Mount Etna has ceasod, and the fears which prevailed regarding the fate of the town of Nicolosi have happily proved groundless the lava stream, which after ingulfing a convent aud many woods and vineyards, had advanced to within a few hundred yards of the nearest house in Nicolosi, has now ceased flowing, and the town may be regarded as saved. Great preparations are afoot for the due celebration of the approaching Sacerdotfal Jubilee ’ 4 of the Pope -i. e., the fiftieth anniveisary of his Holiness’ receiving sacred orders. It occurs in the December of 1887. Committees have boon formed amongst Roman Catholics in all countries for promoting pilgrimages to the tombs of the Apostles m St. Peter’s, for various spiritual excerclses, and for a grand exhibition of art and industry in the Vatican. The objects exhibited are intended to be presented to the Pope, and a largo proportion of them will consist of articles used in public worship—altercloths, gold and silver plate, rich vestments, &c.
