The weekly returns of the Bank of England were published today, and show a total reserve in notes and bullion of £11,500,000, or £400,000 less than last week. The proportion of reserve to liabilities is 41 per cent. (Received August 7, 1 a.m.) August 6. A large party of colonists on a tour in the north of England have met with a hearty welcome at Newcastleon-Tyne, Durham, and Leeds. The party proceeds to Bradford to-day. The annoncement published in the newspapers that an understanding had been arrived at between the British and Ru-siau Governments relative to the difficulty which arose between their Commissioners on the Af'dum frontier is premature. Negotiations arc still proceeding between Great Britain and Russia with the view of settling the claim of tin; bitter country to the territory along the Hirer Oxus.
