HOSPITAL TRUSTEES.
The ordinary fortnightly meeting of the Hospital Trustees was held in the Town Hall last evening; present—Mr Burger (in the chaii), Messrs Payne, Yoysey, Maloney, Wooldridge, and Ziegler. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The outward correspondence was read and approved of. The inward correspondence was read and received, and considered. The Secretary read the agreement which had been prepared as between the Trustess and the newly-appointed Surgeon-Superintendent, which was approved of. The House Committee reported having given over to Dr. M‘Brearty the charge of the Kumara Hospital on the evening of Wednesday, the 14th inst. Mr Maloney, a member of the House Committee, reported that he had interviewed Dr. M'Brearty in reference to iuiilding a suitable residence for the Surgeon-Superintendent to the Hospital, and the doctor had expressed a strong wish to have a residence as near the Hospital as practicable. Mr Ziegler said it must be admitted there was not a house to be obtained in Kumara as a suitable residence for a doctor, and he thought it advisable to erect one. The Chairman supported the idea of building a suitable house on the Hospital Reserve. He stated that the Board approved of the recommendation of the House Committee in the matter. He would move that the necessary steps be taken to have plans and specifications drawn out: cost to be about £3OO. The motion was seconded by Mr Maloney, and carried, and a sub-com-mittee appointed to take the necessary steps, viz., the House Committee, Messrs Morris, Yoysey, Wooldridge, and the mover. The Wardsman submitted a list of articles required in the Hospital. The House Committee was authorised to procure the articles required for house use, and the Secretary to procure the surgical requirements. An account for £ll, progress payment to Messrs Hope and Murray for clearing Hospital Reserve, was passed for payment; also £2 to Mr Cameron for horse and buggy for two days to Hokitika. Mr Maloney moved that Mr H. Burger be appointed to act as Chairman to the Hospital Trustees for the remainder of the financial year. The motion was seconded by Mr Yoysey and carried. On the motion of Mr Maloney, seconded by Mr Ziegler, Mr Yoysey was appointed Vice-Chairman for the same period. Some allusion was made to the vacancy occurring through the continued absence of Mr Mansfield, the Trustee appointed by the Westland County Council; but as it was found he had only been absent from three meetings, action under section 53 of the “ Hospital and Charitable Institulions Act, 1885," to fill a vacancy occurring by a Trustee absenting him. self from four meetings was deferred till the next meeting of the Trustees.
