CHALLENGING THE RULING OF A SPEAKER. (Received July 14, 1 a.in.) Melbourne, July 13. A compromise has been effected between the parties in the case Bell v. Clarke dismissed by the Supreme Court, by each party paying its own costs.

IVickett has resigned the Chairmanship of Committees of the Legislative Assembly. Sir Henry Parkes has formally challenged the ruling of the. Speaker as to the illegality of last Friday's sitting, Ihe poiut raised being that there was "no House," as the Speaker did not take the chair. Barton's ruling is against that contention.
