It is probable that the movement for the separation of Northern from Southern Queensland will result successfully, and that a bill sanctioning the pioposed separation will be introduced in the first session of the New Parliament. The opposition of John Bright to the Home Rule policy of Gladstone has seriously damped the latter in connection with the present election campaign, and in many cases the defeat of candidates presnting themselves as supporters of Mr Gladstone is ascribed to this cause. Up to the present 714,000 ayes and 776,000 noes have been recorded for and against Mr Gladstone in constituencies which at the general election in November last had given him a majority of 73,000 votes. Mr Gladstone denies a statement made to the effect that he had received suggestions from Irish Americans regarding his Home Rule proposnls. Lord Rosebery will question Mr Waddington regarding the resumption of ihe deportation of recidivistes. At the riots ,in Card ff the police behaved in a most brutal manner, and in consequence 150 persons were hurt.
