There are several passengers for the Waihora from New Zealand, bound for Kimberley goldfield by the steamer Gambier. (Received May 17, 1.15 a.m) Sydney, May 16. The death is announced of Mr Hugh George, manager of the Sydney Morning Herald, and formerly connected with the Melbourne Argus. (Received May 17, 1 p.m.) May 17. The remains of the late Hugh George, will be interred in the Waverley Cemetery to-morrow. It is announced that New South Wales is prepared to act in a similar manner to Victoria and South Australia in the matter of cable reduction, that is, she will offer no objection to non-contributing colonies participating in the lower tariff. Arrived the steamship Hauroto, from New Zealand. The steamship Amangi arrived all well at Plymouth at 2 a.m. to-day. Her frozen meat is in good condition/
