COBDEN BRIDGE TOLL AND THE NELSON CREEK WATER-RACE;

PUBLIC MEETING AT GREENSTONE. A public meeting convened by Mr P. Foley, M.C.C., was held at Greenstone on Friday last, to obtain an opinion from the ratepayers of the district regarding the imposition of a toll on the Cobden bridge, and the taking over by the Grey County Council of the Nelson Creek water-race. Mr J. Biggs presided, COBDEX BRIDGE. It was proposed by Mr E. Kean, and seconded by Mr T. Rowe—“ That no toll be levied on the Cobden bridge.” An amendment was proposed by Mr M. Dwyer, and seconded by Mr M, .Maloney—“That a toll be levied on the Cobden bridge until the amount of balance due by the Grey County and Borough of Grey mouth be paid.” The amendment was carried by a large majority. XELSOX CREEK WATER-RACE. Mr Maloney moved—That this meeting objects to the County Council of Grey taking over the Nelson Creek water-race.” The motion was seconded by Mr E. Kean. An amendment was proposed by Mr T. Rowe, seconded by Mr P. Ryan—- “ T,lrtt Council do take the Nelson Cieek water-race over.” The amendment was lost, and the original motion was put and carried. A hearty vote of thanks to and confidence in our worthy member (Mr Foley), proposed by Mr Dwyer, and seconded by Mr Maloney, was carried unanimously.
