ANNUAL MEETING.

The annual meeting of the Boiou«h Council for the purpose of receiving the balance-sheet, statement of accounts, and auditors' report for the year was held in the Town Hall on Tuesday evening, 11th inst. ; present—Counci!lois Killeen (in the chair), Anderson, Fi'zsimons, Olden, Maloney, and Mulvihill.

The Town Clerk road the various clauses of the " Municipal Corporations Act" lequiring the meeting, also the balance-sheet, statement of accounts, and auditors' report.

ORDINARY MEETING. The ordinary meeting of the Borough Council was held in the Town Hall on Thursday evening; present—His Worship ihe Mayor (H. Burger, Esq.), Councillors Maloney, Killeen, Olden, Fitzsimons, Jorgensen, Anderson, and Mulvihill. The minutes of the previous ordinary and annual meetings were read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE. The inward correspondence was read and received, and considered. A memorandum was read from the Property-Tax Commissioner forwarding Roll of Crown Lands in (he Borough of Kumara as revised by the Commissioner of Crown Lands, together with the form for making demand for rates thereon.—Received. A letter was read from the Rev. Father Walshe, drawing the attention of the Council to the dangerous state of a culvert in Third street, approaching the Catholic Church, also requesting that the entrance to the Presbytery from Tui street may be graveled.— On the motion of the Mayor, seconded by Cr. Jorgensen, the letter was referred to the Public Works Committee, with power to act. PUBLIC WORKS. The Town Clerk read the Public Works Committee's Report, as follows : " Present—Crs. Ziegler (chairman), Mulvihill, Killeen, Jorgensen, and the Mayor. The Committee recommended—- " That the amount of £59, to J. Cairns, progress p«yment on section 1, Borongh Reserve, be certified as correct. "That the Council call for tenders for clearing, grubbing, and draining one acre, marked out on the Borough Reserve, to be let in two sections, in accordance with the specifications prepared by the Town Clerk, and that the small piece of ground between these sections and the present clearing be felled with it, and included in the contract. "2. That the Council have specifications prepared for the necessary culverts upon the present gvuhbed ground, to be laid upon the table before next meeting. " That the Council have specifications prepared by next meeting for felling the centre of the grubbed ground on the Reserve." The clauses were considered seiiatim and severally adopted. The sum of £9 17s 6d, progress payment to A. W. Quy and Co., was, on the motion of Cr. Jorgensen, seconded by Cr. Maloney, passed for payment. It tvas resolved that a board be erected at the Zigzag, calling attention to the proper place for a rubbish depot. ADJOURNED SPECIAL MEETING. At 8.30 p.m., the time appointed, the adjourned special meeting of the Council was held to confirm the Burgess Roll; present—all the members who sat at the previous ordinary meeting. BURGESS ROLL. The Mayor explained that the business was to confirm the Burgess Roll. The Town Clerk reported that £SO of the outstanding rates had been collected since last meeting, but that there were still a large number of names on the Defaulters' List. He thought if the meeting was again adjourned for a week or a fortnight, most of the outstanding rates might be collected. The meeting was then further adjourned for a fortnight, till the 27th May, at 8.30 p.m. SPECIAL MEETING. At 9 p.m., a special meeting of the Council was held to enable the Gouncil, under clause 82 of the "Municipal Corporations Act " to make a " special order;" present—The same councillors, and Cr. M'llroy. NEW BYE LAW. Cr. Jorgensen now moved—" That the following Bye-law, No. 12, be now made—'That the Council be hereby empowered to alter or repeal any of the existing Bye-laws of Borough Council of Kumara, by giving seven days' notice thereof, and notifying the same by one week's insertion in the local newspaper.'"

The motion was seconded by the Mayor, and carried.
