This morning John M'Manus, 30 years of age, while removing basils from a revolving drum at Messrs Lighlbandand Allen's tramway, Woolston, was accidentally killed. " A sack fastened round his shoulders caught in in the shafting, which drew him off the ground and broke his neck. He had been a fellow stowaway on the Rimutakft with Flenry, who was burned to death on the Coptic a fortnight ago. GISBORNE, May 14. A man named William Rowley was arrested to-day for attempting to murder a man named O'Neill. It appears both were working together, and that Rowley told the police O'Neill shot himself. Subsequently suspicion fell on Rowley, and he was arrested. O'Neill, who was shot in the breast, and had his skull split open, is in a precaiious condition.
