In the House of Commons to-day, Mr Gladstone stated, in reply to a question, that if the reply of Greece to the last note presented by the Powers was of an inadequate nature, immediate steps would be taken by them to secure the object they had in view. (Received May 8, 1.15 a.m.) May 7. It is announced that the Greek Government has refused further explanations in reply to the ultimatum of the Powers, and the Envoys of the several countries will leave Athens today. The Greek troops are said to be concentrating on the northern frontier. In the House of Commons last night, Mr John Morley, Chief Secretary for Ireland, introduced a bill providing for the temporary prolongation of the Irish Arms Act. The amount carried forward to the reserve by the London Chartered Bank of Australia is £19,000, not £BOOO, as telegraphed.

The entire staff of the German Socialist newspaper, published at Chicago, have been arrested, charged with murder in connection with the recent riots in that city. All the Foreign Ministers have left with the exception of the Repivspntatives of Russia and France, the former of whom is awaiting orders from his Government. That portion of the combined squad-
