FOLEY AND BERKLEY.

We must certainly admit that we are somewhat surprised at the laxity evinced by the Knmara public in their attendance at the Theatre on Saturday night. Evidently the bulk of onr playgoing community are totally unaware ot the calibre and excellence of the entertainment entitled “Chic.” It is certainly somewhat surprising that a place that lists always been renowned for giving substantial support to a really de-.ei ving performance when such has made an appearance, is wanting in i s patinnage on this occasion, “ Chic” is excellent; it is clever, refined, antj

very humourous. From the rise to the fall of the curtain, the interest is undivichd. We never remember seeing so small an audience so thoroughly satisfied as those assembled on Saturday evening. It is the object of many dramatic companies to make a successful advent by the aid of flaring and many-coloured wall-sheets and prettily printed bills, the chief excellence of the performance being upon the outside boardings. Messrs Foley and Berkley depend solely upon the merits of a clever entertainment, and the judicial discrimination of a critical public. To speak of the varied excellence of the artists themselves is perfectly unnecessary, as they have received such genuine and well-merited praise at our bands and also through the columns of our contemporaries already.

To-night an entire change of programme is announced, introducing Miss Laura Bloom, the clever young actress and vocalist; and this being positively the last opportunity for seeing the Chic Company, we earnestly hope that our citizens will rally up, as they can do, and give them a really good attendance.
