Late London cablegrams this afternoon state the New Zealand Midland (meaning the East and West Coast) Railway scheme has been successfully launched.— The general result of a meeting of the Liberal party is that it has been decided to oppose that portion of Mr Gladstone’s Irish proposals which provide for the exclusion of Irish members from the House of Commons.
A cablegram from Melbourne this afternoon states that a comet of great brilliancy has made its appearance, and is visible from all parts of Victoria.
