BOROUGH COUNCIL.
«. The ordinary meeting of the Borough Council was held in the' Town Hall on Thursday evening; present—His Worship the Mayor (H. Burger, Esq.), Councillors Maloney, Killeen, Olden, Fitzsimons, Jorgenson, Anderson, and Mulvihill. Mr W. J. M'llroy, who had been recently elected a Borough Councillor, took the oath and his seat. ’ The minutes of the previous xneetino were read and confirmed. & CORRESPONDENCE. The outward correspondence was read and approved of. Letters from the Treasurer advisin® ef gold revenue and duty were received*! A letter from the Westland County Council re Ceraeteiy was received. PUBLIC WORKS. The Town Clerk read the Public Works Committee’s report, as follows : “Present Councillms Ziegler (chair), Killeen, Jorgensen, Fitzsimmons, Mulvihill, and The Mayor. 1. “ Resolved—That the Town Clerk be instructed to prepare specifications for fencing and clearing the Cemetery ; the ground to be cleared level, with surface a width of 10ft. inside the fence, and all scrub and timber to be burnt on the ground. The fence to be fonr 'vires, and a top-rail on the road frontage, and five wires without to(»rail at the sides and back of the Cemetery. The Council to supply the wire and staples. [The Town Clerk reported that Mr Sctldon informed him that the County Engineer would lav r.ff the road . m tlie boundary track, and take the inquired levels a"d g,-., los.l
2, “ Resolved—That taking into consideration the report of the Town Cleik, the question of improving the boundary track be held over for the present, and that the Chairman and Town Clerk obtain from Mr Seddon any farther information.
3. “ Resolved —That the Council be recommended to take the necessary steps to rescind sub-section 1 of ByeJaw No. 5, relating to keeping swine within certain portions of the borough, as the committee • consider that such bye-law is arbitrary as it now stands. “ L. Ziegler, Chairman.” On the motion of the Mayor, seconded by Cr. Olden, clause 1 was amended by substituting a paling fence on the frontage to the Main road; and the clause, as amended, was adopted. Clauses 2 and 3 were adopted as read. The teport of the Borough Inspector on the progress of the contracts on the Borough Reserve was received and referred to the Public Works Committee. FINANCE COMMITTEE. The Mayor by leave moved, and CV. Anderson seconded —“ That the name of Cr. M'llroy be added to the Finance Committee.”—Carried. NOTICE OF MOTION. Cr. Jorgensen gave notice of motion as follows:—“That sub-section 1 of Bye-law No. 5 ba repealed, and that the Town Clerk be instructed to publish the necessary notices of such repeal, in accordance with the “ Municipal Corporations Act.” ADJOURNMENT. On the motion of the Mayor, seconded by Cr. Maloney, the Council adjourned till half-past seven o’clock on Monday evening, the 19th inst.
