[united PRESS ASSOCIATION. 1 WRECK OP. UNION STEAMER TAIAROA. Kekerangu, April 14. The inquest on the bodies of Robert Boyle Monkman, chief officer of the Taiaroa, also Martin, a passenger by the same vessel, and three other bodies of persons unknown, opened this afternoon at the Kekerangu school room, before John Allan, R.M., Coroner, and a jury of six. Alexander M‘Lauchlin, manager of the Kekerangu station, was foreman. The Union Company was represented by Liggins, the Blenheim agent. Sergeant White conducted the inquiry on behalf of the police. A verdict of. “found drowned” was returned, and certificates were issued for the burial of the bodies. It has been ascertained that the total number of souls on hoard the Taiaroa was 48, of whom 14 were saved, and nine bodies have come ashore. 25 bodies remain unaccounted for at present. The body found yesterday at Flax-, bourne has been identified as that of Mr R. H. Yallance. Wellington, April 14. At the Wellington Racing Club meeting on Friday and Saturday, mourning badges will be worn by trainers, jockeys, owners, and members of the club, out of respect to the memory of R. H. Yallance. Captain Thomson has been presented with a valuable good locket by the occupants of the boat rescued from the Taiaroa. April 15. The postal department have icceived intimation from Kekerangu that seven mail bags were recovered from the Taiaroa at six this morning, and they are expected at Blenheim by Friday’s coach. The magisterial inquiry into the wreck of the Taiaroa will commence at Wellington at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
