The Kumara Times Published Every Evening. WEDNESDAY, APRIL 14, 1886.

Parliament meets on the 13th May. The Hon. the Minister of Mines and party arrived at Ross last evening. The party, consists of his son, Mr Hamer, Professor Browne, the County Chairman, and Mr Mueller. Professor Black is lecturing at Mapourika Lake. Mr Matthew Burnett, the Temperance lecturer, arrived by the noon coach from Hokitika, where he last night gave a farewell lecture at the Duke of Edinburgh Theatre, to a large and enthusiastic audience. The result of Mr Burnett's mission so far on the Coast has been to augment the ranks of the abstainers by 1100 persons. He proceeded by tram to Ureymotith this afternoon, where he opens a mission to-night. We are again compelled to hold over our report of his last lecture in Kumara, owing to a pressure of telegrams. The Christchurc.li coach arrived at three o'clock this afternoon. We regret to learn that Mr South, Clerk of Courts, is seriously indisposed. He was taken to the hospital last evening. Mr R. J. Seddon was elected Chairman of the Education Board at the meeting held at Hokitika last night. Commander Edwin wired at noon today—"lndications for very cold night, or , frost."

Messrs Clarke and Price's Cape Foulwind Railway contract is now completely finished, and will be handed over to the Harbor Board immediately.

An ingenious and powerful railway brake is about to be patented by Mr David Williams, of this town. The brake will act on the rails of the line, not on the wheels of the brake-van. Mr Williams' invention has a two-fold object—to save wear of the wheels, aud give more than twice the power of the present brakes to stop a train. A meeting of the Miners Ball Committee will be held at Mr G. Watson's house, Dillman's Town, to-night, at 7 o'clock.

Mr Louis Seebeck has opened a pork butchery in the late European Hotel, near the Theatre Royal, Seddon street; and hopes by supplying good and cheap meat to ensure the public patronage. The Globe (Reefton) mine manager reports the reef to be looking well. It is six feet thick, and solid, and showing gold. W. J. M'llroy and Co., Main street, Kumara, beg to announce that they are purchasers of gold.—[Advt.] Beware of packages of injurious stuff purporting to make genuine Hop Bitters ; also preparations and fluids said to contain all the properties of American Hop Bitters. They spring up on account of the great popularity of the genuine, which is only put up in large square-panel amber-coloured bottles, with the names "Dr. Soule," and " Hop Bitters " blown in the glass, and is the best family medicine ever made.
