"ONE OF THE UNEMPLOYED."
[TO THE EDITOR.] Sir—The " One of the Unemploved " who held forth in the Kumaka Times on Friday evening last, on the text of Mr Seddon's telegram of 27th ult. to the Minister for Public Works, states that " Another good cause for complaint by the member for Kumara was in the rejection of unemployed local labour." Seeing that Mr Seddon never once mentioned in his telegram the refusal to employ local labour, plainly shows that 0. 0. T. IT. was defending Mr Seddon's letter to yon, and published in the Kumaka Times of Ist April, in which Mr S. says " There has been on the Coast an overplus of labour for months. * * These men have been actually refused work." Probably 0. O. T. TJ. was supplied (not from your office understand) with too much matter to defend, hence his fatal mistake in confounding Mr Seddon's telegram with his letter—two different documents altogether. Blundering O. O. T. IT., will now see how flat the most of his apparently put-up job fell upon the public ear. Had Mr Seddon " come out " himself instead of employing (which in all likelihood he did) professional O. 0. T. TJ. to •write him up, he (Mr Seddon) might have retiieved those honours which are in jeopardy by his hasty telegram. He refrained from doing so, and ingloriously retired to the lofty attic of self conceit, to munch the "green leek " which he signally failed to thrust down the throat of—Yours truly, Decency before Honours. Kumara, April 10, 1886.
