SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

The monthly meeting of the Local School Committee was held in the Town Hall last evening ; present—Mr Seddon (Chairman), Messrs Burner, Barrowman, Jamieson, Williamson' Voysey, and Campbell (Hon. Sec). The minutes of the previous meetiii" were read and confirmed. 3 The outward correspondence was read and approved of. The inward correspondence was read and received, and considered. In accordance with n letter from the Secretary to the Education Board notifying the time and place for the annual meeting of householders to elect a new School Committee, the Hon. Secretary was instructed to request that the time and place for such meetiii" may be advertised in the local paper a week previous to the meeting. It was resolved that the head master, 3\lr Woodward, be authorised to grant certificates for good attendance to the best in all the classes.

The Treasurer reported bavin* received the first grant.of the year f ram the Central Board for the local Committee, as follows :—Kumara School, £9 18s 2d; Rangiriri School, £1 s S __ total, £ll 3s 2d.

Accounts to the amount of £6 6s were passed for payment; and two accounts amounting to £5 15s were recommended to the Board for payment. A sub-committee consisting of the Chairman, Hon. Secretary, and Mr P. Bairowmau were appointed to draw up the annual report. A letter was read and received from the Board's Secretary stating that the question of erection of a caretaker's house on the Kumara School grounds had been read at the meeting of the Board on the 9th inst., and" that it would be taken into consideration when the building vote is distributed I'V the Board.

A circular was also received from the Board's Secretary stating that at the last meeting of the Board, it had been resolved tint in future any teacher leaving the service of the Board without having previously given one mouth's notice of his or her intention s > to do, (as required by " The Education Act, 1877,") would forfeit one month's salary.—The circular was ordered to be forwarded to Mr Woodward for the information of the staff. The meeting was then adjourned until such time as the Chairman shall «ive notice to consider annual teport.
