A very well-attended coi, 61 egational meeting was hold last evening in the Presbyterian Church, when it was unanimously and cordially resolved to retain the services of Mr Ramsay, who has officiated for some time in the church, and given great satisfaction to the congregation. The Hon. Mr Larnach left Wellington for the South yesterday morning. The Premier arrived from the North yesterday evening. The County Chairman and County Engineer proceeded to-day to inspect the site for the new road to Dillman's via
the Shamrock Lead, and, we understand, made satisfactory arrangements with the holders of the claims through which the road will pass. They returned to Hokitika at four o'clock.
F. W. Martin, Esq., H. A. Gordon, Esq., and E. I. Lord, Esq., were in Kumara this morning ; but had not been here long, when they were ordered to proceed at once to Ross.
On Sunday evening, at about six o'clock (the Times reports) a large waterspout was to be seen far out at sea, and coming from the north-west. The dart and whirling column of water descended from a heavy cloud almost perpendicularly; until, struck by a wind, it twisted and bent like a huge serpent, and finally breaking sank into the sea.
A labourer named Charles Lukey died suddenly in a fit on Sunday night, in Amberley.
