THE "CHIC" COMPANY.

I Notwithstanding the serious opposij tion fiom two sources—the conflicting j element, and the local performance, Messrs Foley and Berkley were honoured with a fairly good house to witness their really clever entertainment last evening. All the eloquence bestowed upon this peifoimance by our contemporaries is we mast freely admit, deservedly merited. The number of metamorphoses of character, mostly of a most arduous description, undertaken by these two gmifclemeu who essay to amuse an audience for two hours and a half, and do it to the satisfaction of the most exacting—are, to say the least of them, wondeiful—and we aie prepared to say that the residents of this town have never pieviously seen anything approaching the rapidity of change and excellence of cost n mo displayed by Messrs Foley and Berkley. To speak of the performers individually at any length is unnecessary; those that were j present last night will douhtless be high in praise of them today. Suffice it to say, that Mr Foley is as excellent a comedian, in Irish character particularly, as has ever paced the ho mis of the Eoyal. Song, dance, and comic acting is all oue to him. Mr Berkley makes up and plays (he female parts in a manner such as is calculated to deceive any but the initiated, mid, iu fact after having being disillusionised, it is

extremely difficult to credit that he is nob a lady. To describe the many and various items of this clever performance individually would occupy too long a space; we can only recomu/end it as a talented and most amusing eveumgs amusement to all and any who are wanting harmless recreation. Messrs Foley and Berkley play at the Theatie Royal again this evening, and for the last time, when we sincerely wish them a full attendance.
