TEMPERANCE MISSION.
We are indebted to the Hon. Secretary for further particulars of what transpired at the meeting which took place in the Town Hall on Thursday evening for the purpose of organising a working committee to carry out details in connection with the projected mission of Mr Matthew Barnett in this town. Mr F. Ba rrowman, who presided, having explained the object of the meeting, The following gentlemen were appointed a Committee:—The Rev. T. Hodgson (Church of England), the Kev. P. Ramsay (Presbyterian), the Rev. J. Hosking (Wesleyan), Messrs F. Bairowman, D. M‘Kinnon, J. Kelly, M. Bmowman, R. Barrett, C. F. Holmes, G. Haymes, and G. Walker. Mr D. M‘Kinnou was appointed Secretary and Treasurer. The Rev. T. Hodgsou was appointed to take the chair at Mr Burnett’s first meeting, and the Rev. P. Ramsay at the second meeting. The Secretary was requested to write to the various Church choirs, and ask them through their respective clergymen, to unite for the purpose of practising suitable hymns for these meetings, and that Mr T. E. Cain be requested to conduct on these occasions,’ also to apply to the Trustees of the Presbyterian Church requesting the use of their chinch and organ for practice. It was also resolved, that the Kumara Band he requested through their leader, Mr Richards, to give their services for the first evening. Mr F. The following gentlemen were appointed a sub-committee to deal w’uh all business in connection with the mission: Revs. T. Hodgson, P. Ramsay, and J. Hoskiug, Messrs R. Barrett, D. MTCinnon, and M. Barrowman. The Revs. Messrs Hodgson, Ramsay, and Hosking, and Mr M'Kinnou signified their willingness to meet Mr Barnett at the coach on his way through to Hokitika. A vote of thanks to the Chairman terminated the meeting.
