S Smith, the general manrger of the "Called B.ck" Dramatic and Comedy Company, arrived in town last nii-lit by train from Greymouth, to make arrangements for the appearance of this large company in Kuma.a shortly— a company of which eveiv } member is said to be abore par, and which produces pieces of the latest and most popular kind, each being mounted as if it were a specialty. The " Cal ! ed Bick" Company numbers among its members several artists of wide fame in the theatrical p.ofession. Miss Eloise Juno, from the Standard Theatre, London, and more recently taking leading business at the Royal, in Melbourne* has, as a tragedienne, delighted the raostciitical and fastidious audiences. Mr E. H. Taylor, who has for many years been a leading favourite character actor on the boards of the Melbourne Theatres, is a host in himself, and full of humor and pathog, while Miss Carrington, a yonng lady introduced into the colonies from the Sadler's Wells and Queen's Theatres, London, by George Coppin, is one of the most charming soubrettes that has appeared before the Australasian public. Then Messrs J. J. Kennedy and Wilson Forbes are gentlemen of more than ordinary reputation, while the company as a whole consisting of eighteen to twenty performers, is one of the most evenly balanced that has ever travelled through New Zealand.
