WASTE LANDS BOARD.

The Weslhind Li.nds Board met at liokitikH, at 2 p.m. yesterday; present —tin; Chief Commissioner (Gerhaid Mueller, Esq ), Messrs Northcroft, Bevan, Pateison, Kerr, and Matheaon. The following business is reported by the Times in connection with this part of the district:—

Applications 517, W. Duncan, 518, J". Maher(by W. Duncan); and 519, R. W. Wade, for mineral leases of 30 acres each, at the Gorge river, and for mining for nickel, &o , were granted, subject to the terms, conditions, and stipulations as application No. 496 (Lindsay and Law), for mineral lease in same locality with the exception that the plans of surveys must be handed in within four months and leases must l>e executed within two mouths from time same are ready. A petition presented by Mr Newton. on behalf of self and other deferred payment, section-holders, praying thai the land recommended to be thrown open to leasing under Section 161 of the Land Act (being an island in (he Teremakau river applied for by W. Harris) be withdrawn from such purpose, was received and considered.— The Board found they could not entertain the prayer of the petition, but resolved that, the purpose for which the land was,to be thrown open for selection be changed to looses (perpetual) under Clause 135 of said Act.
