Autumn Meeting commenced to-day, and was very successful. The attendance was very large, the grand stand being more largely patronised than on any previous occasion. The racing was on the whole excellent. The weather was threatening in the morning, and though one or two showers fell it kept up while thr races continued, and the course was in perfect order. Hermitage, Derringer, and Patrician also ran. A grand start was made, Necklace taking the lead. In passing the stand the horses kept well together, hut going very slow. Several slight changes occurred, but it was not till half-a-mile from home that the real struggle took'place. Here the favorite left the hunch of horses behind Necklace, and joined issue with Necklace, and the two drew away rapidly from the others, who were never in it from this time. Coming into the straight whip had to be taken out to Nelson, and a grand struggle ensued up the straight between the two.. Nelson got his head in fiont a few lengths from home, and won by a neck. Lady Emma a poor third. Time, 3min. 54-1 sees. Divs. (£-2), £S 14s 6d; (£IV £1 12s 6d. '
