At an inquest at Kaiapoi today on the boy named Kerr, drowned yesterday, the jury returned a verdict of accidental death, and added a ridei recommending that the boy Jim Forest, deceased's companion, who had made a gallant attempt to rescue him, be recognised by the Royal Humane Society. Nelson, February 18. A walking tournament took place this eveniug between F. Morshead and four local peJs. in the Theatre, Morshead undertaking to walk for two hours, taking a fresh man each halfhour. When time was called Morshead had covered 14£ miles; the aggregate distance covered by the local men beiDg half-a-mile less.
