It is announced that the various telegraph companies concerned are piepared to and will shortly make the press rate between England and Australia 2s 8d per word, provided all the colonies are treated alike. (Received February 18, 0.50 a.m.) Later. The Daily News this morning announces that offensive operations on the part of the combined fleet on Salamis are imminent, with the view of disabling the Greek fleet, which is now lying in that place. Mr Gladstone has not been able to formulate proposals with regard to the Irish question. It is believed that the Government is not prepared to submit a scheme at present.
