[REUTERS TELEGRAMS.] By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. - THE VICTORIAN WHARF LABOURERS' STRIKE. SEAMEN, STEWARDS, AND COOKS. MEETING OF VICTORIAN LIBERALS. SOUTH AUSTRALIAN YIELD OF WHEAT TO THE ACRE. (Received January 12, 1.30 a.m.) Melbourne, January 11. The Trades Hall Council has written to the shipowners proposing the establishment of a board of conciliation in the settlement of the present difficulty. (Received January 12, 12.45 p.m.) January 12. The Seamen's Union held their meeting last night, and considered whether they should not join the Labourers' Union in striking. There was a very large attendance. It was eventually decided to write to the Co-operative Seamen's Unions of New South Wales, South Australia, Queensland, and New Zealand; and, if a favourable reply was received from them, to strike, in twenty-four hours. It is expected that if the seamen go out, the stewards and cooks will follow their example.
Great hostility is being manifested towards the firm of Howard Smith and Sons, whom it is propos-d to boycott. An informal meeting of Liberals has been held. The Hon. Graham Berry recemmended the Hon. Mr Deakin as fitting to assume the leadership of the party.
