The steamer Napier, after over a month's detention at Okarito, arrived at Hokitika yesterday morning. - Captain Fisk reports that he left Hokitika on Saturday, the sth of December, at 8 p.m. and arrived off Okarito, having experienced fine weather, the next day at 4 a.m. Crossed the bar at 10 a.m., the channel being very narrow and crooked, and stuck on the shingle bank formed in the river lately; attempted to heave the vessel off, but could not move her. Next tide shifted a little, but could not land any cargo, owing to the rough sea and strong current running. On Monday, the 7th, discharged a portion of the cargo, and at 10.30 a.m. moved the vessel to the north bank of the river, and finished discharging the cargo the following day. On Wednesday discharged all the ship's stores and everything moveable, and got the vessel into a better position. Blew down the boiler on Thursday and hove the ship over the bank and safely berthed her at the wharf. From that time until Sunday last the shingle bank prevented us leaving, and it was only then with great difficulty that we crossed the bar, arriving as above.

Cured of Drinking.—" A young friend of mine was cured of an insatiable thirst for liquor, that had so prostrated his system that he was unable to do any business. He was entirely cured by the use of American Co. 's Hop Bitters. It allayed all that burning thirst, took away the appetite for liquor, made his nerves steady, and he has remained a sober and steady man for more than two years, and has no desire to return to his cups."— From a leading R. R. Official. A Lady's Wish.—"Oh, how I do wish my skin was as clear and soft as yours !" said a lady to a friend. You can easily make it so," answered the friend. "Howl" inquired the first lady. "By using Dr. Soule's Hop Bitters, that makes pure rich blood and blooming health. It did it for me, as you observe." Read.
