GREY COUNTY COUNCIL.

The Council met in the Chambers Greymonth, on Wednesday, 6th inst.* at 2 p.m.; present—Councillors Warren (Chairman), Clifford, Ryall, Parfitt, Guinness, M'Kechnie, and Taylor. The following business may lie of interest to residents in the south end of the county. A letter was received from the Mines

Department stating that the first four miles of Irishman's track and other work had been approved of. and mi-dit be proceeded with. Letter from F. Brohan notifying that he had purchased Mr Noonan’a interest in the Teremakau ferry, and i equfiating the Council to accept him in Mr Noonan’s place.—Agreed to, provided Mr Noonan certified to the transfer of the interest. Application from John M‘lntee for a reward fo- discovei ing payable ground which caused a rush at which 40 men are working.—Or. Guinness moved that Mr M‘lntee he informed that the Council ate willing to hear him personally as to his claim for the reward. Cr. Parfitt seconded.—Carried. Considerable discussion took place over an application by Coleman Hynes under the new prospecting regulations. Cr. Guinness, in order to test the matter, moved that as the Paroa Committee did not nominate a prospectin' l ' party, the application of Hynes, Rose and oihers he approved, provided they comply with the legulations, and that the subsidy will only be paid under those regulations and upon the Road Overseer certifying as to the distance from old workings and the amount of work done—Cr. M‘Kechnieseconded— Carried. The Chairman, moved “That in accordance with ‘The Counties Act Amendment Act, 1885,’ this Council determine the general expenditure for the year, and that separate debtors and creditors accounts be kept against each riding, and that, proportionate with the revenue of each riding, the expenditure be estimated."—The mover said that he merely tabled the motion in order to bring the matter formally under their notice, as the Act provides for doing that embodied in this motion.—Cr. Rynll seconded,—Carried. Cr. Guinness moved that the Council again apply to (he Minister for Lands for power to expand the £I4OO voted for the Teremakau to Grey Yal—Cr. Clifford seconded.—Carried. The next meeting of the Council was fixed for the 9th March next, at 8 p.m.
