FIRE BRIGADE.
The mouthly meeting of the Volunteer Fire Brigade was held in the Town Ball on Wednesday evening. There were present —Capt. Burger, Lieut. Brayshaw, G. Anderson, P. Smith, W. Barnett, M. Gerraghty, L. Ziegler, W. Schulsiad, E.Stevenson, J. Hannah,' G. Rudkin, J. Valentinp, F. Koenan, W. M'Mahon, C. Martha, H. A damson, C. Gebhardt, J. Howe, W. Close, and T. G. Davy. The minutes of meeting held on 2nd December were read and confirmed. The Treasurer reported a credit balance of .£l7 lis 6d. Capt. Burger reported that the subscriptions for fireworks amounted to £ll 17s, and that the full amount had been expended for that purpose, including cost of freightage. • Sums of 5s 6d for telegrams and petty cash, £2 5s for refreshments, and £1 Is for caretaking were passed for payment. Capt. Burger reported that the balance of proceeds of concert and ball amounted to £l4 4s 6d. It was resolved that the Brigade guarantee the men going to Napier a sum of not less than £5 10s each ; that the town be canvassed for subscriptions towards it, and that the amount of the deficiency be paid out of the members' fund. Sums amounting to £2 0s 6d were parsed for payment. Secretary Gerraghty wrote tendeiino his resignation as Secretary and member of the Brigade, heing about to leave the district. The resignation was received with regret, and a cordial vote of thanks pass»d to Fireman Gerraghty for his valuable services as a member of the Brigade. Nominations were then taken for officers for the ensuing year, as follow : Captain.— flenry Burger. Lieutenant._J. Brayshaw, F.Smith, G. Anderson.

Murtha. Fire Company. —L. Ziegler, F. Keenan. Secretary —G. R. Rurikin, J. Howe, G. Anderson. • Treasurer.—Dr. Davy, L. Ziegler, J. Brayshaw. Auditors: General Fund—J. Pearson and J. Hannah ; Members' Fund— J. Hannah and L. Ziegler. Fireman Rudkin was appointed Secretary pro tem. It was arranged that the annual meetiug take place on the 2nd Wednesday in February (10th prox.) Receipts to members fund were handed in amounting to £l. The m eting was then adjourned till Monday next, Bih inst.
