KUMARA SCHOOL DISTRICT.
The monthly meeting of-the Kara.ua District School Committee was held in the Town 1 1 all on Monday evening • present—Mr R. J. Seddon (Chairman),' Messrs F. Barrowman, Burger, Voysey, Jamieson, and Campbell (Hon. Sec.). The minutes of the previous meetiu° r were read and confirmed. & In reply to a request, it was resolved to grant a testimonial to Mr C. J. Patrick, of Greenstone, who for some yeais was a teacher under the Kumara School Committee. The following memorandum of the results of the annual examinations of schools, from Mr J. Smith, the School Inspector, dated Kumara, December sth, 1885, and addressed to the Chairman, was read and received : The annual examination of the schools in your district was concluded yesterday and the teachers have been furnished with the schedules of marks The following is a summary of the results ; KUMARA SCHOOL. Standard VI. 9 examined 9 passed. ~ V. 15 „ 14 „ IV- 21 21 ” „ in. 35 31 ” ” f? ” 37 « ” L „ 34 „ Total 153 „ 146 „ ihe per-centage of passes is therefore 95 42. KANGTEIRI SCHOOL. Standard IV. 2 examined 1 passed " U ? ” 1 .. ” I J' 5 .. 4 „ 1 ■ ;; Tofal 14 „ s n Per-centage, 57'14. A letter dated 17th December was read from the Secretary Education Board reminding the Committee of the necessity of nominating a qualified per. son as a member of the Board between the Ist and Slat January, Also drawing the attention of the Committee to the necessity of furnishing a report of the Committee’s proceedings for the previous year; such report to contain a full account ot the income and expenditure of the committee during the same term. Also stating that he (the Inspector) had been appointed by the Board to audit the School Committee’s accounts, and would shortly make arrangements for so doing. I i reference to clauses 6 and 7 of “ The Education Act IS/ / Amendment Act ; 1885; which came into operation
on the Ist inst., it was resolved that the Board be requested to publish said clauses for general information. The Chairman reported, on behalf of the sub-committee, that the works required at the Kuraara School had been finished in a satisfactory manner, and banded in the accounts in connection with the same, amounting to £l3 6s 9d. It was resolved that the* accounts be recommended for payment, and sent to the Board of Education for the district. Three other accounts of £2 each were passed for payment, which concluded the business of the meeting.
