(Received January 4, 1.15 p.m.) Sydney, January 4. Owing to the heavy rains which have been falling (he Southern Railway line was washed away near Cootamundra, close to where the disastrous accident occurred last January. The railway officials, however, took prompt steps to warn the passenger train which was due, and the only result was a delay of several hours, in consequence of the damage to the line. (Received January 4, 1.15 p.m. Melbourne, January 4. The wharf labourers’strike is exciting sympathy among the draymen and cabmen. They refuse to place cargo on board ship, and in consequence of the dispute several small vessels have been temporarily laid up, and the departure of others is being greatly delayed. The agitation has spread to Geelong and 76 labourers have struck work there. Arrived yesterday morning, the P. and O. steamship Valetta, with London mails to November 28th. COLONIAL REVENUE RETURNS. (Received January 2, 1.30 a.m.) Melbourne, January 1, The Victorian quarterly and yearly revenue returns were published to-day. The levenue for .quarter ending December 31st amounts to <£1,570,000* being a decrease of £I9OO as compared with the corresponding period of last year. The falling off is chiefly in receipts for Land sales, the Railway revenue shewing an increase on the same period oof £40,000. The total revenue for the twelve months is £6,250,000, being an increase on last year of £60,000. Adelaide, January I. The South Australian revenue returns give the year’s revenue as £1,130,000, being £IBO,OOO below the preceding twelve months, and considerably below the amount estimated by the Treasurer six months ago, Hobart Town, January 1. Ihe Tasmanian yearly revenue returns are very favourable, tiie character of the revenue having been well sustained.
