(Received January 2, 1.30 a.in.) Sydney, January 1. The first day?s racing of the Sydney Tattersall's Club took place to-day. The principal event was the Tattersall's Club Cup, which resulted as follows: Tempo ... ... ... i Ben Bolt 2 Friendship ... ... 3 Eleven horses started. Won by a length and a-half. Time, 3mins. 37secs. (Received January 2, 1.45 a.m.) Melbourne, January 1. A match between the eleven which are about to proceed to England and a combined Victorian team was com. raenced on the Melbourne grounds this morning. The Victorian team won the tosa, and decided to go first to the wickets. They were all disposed of for 135 runs. The Australian Eleven then went in, and when the stumps were drawn they had secured 69 runs for the loss of two wickets, Scott and M'Jlwraith being not out for 26 find 40 respectively. (Received January 2, 11.30 a.m.) Flemington Racecourse, January 1. The Victorian Racing Club's New Year's Day Meeting passed off very successfully. A meeting of the representatives of County Cricket Club was held this evening for the purpose of arranging a list of matches to be played against the Australian Eleven, who are to visit England in the forthcoming season. Complaint was made of the inconvenience caused through the previous!v arranged County programme having to be altered, in order lo secure vacant dates for the Australian matches; and the tardiness displayed by the Australian authorities was censured on the motion of Lord Harris. The programme now includes twenty-eight Australian Eleven matches, four of which will be played at Lordk and four on the Kensington Oval. Amongst the engagements are three against AllEngland, two against the Gentlemen Players, and one against the Professionals. The professional players have moderated their demands as to the share of gate money that is to be handed over to them.
