(Received January 2, 1.30 a.m. Melbourne, December 31. Telegrams received in this city today, announce the discovery of the bodies of three men at Clifton Hill, Thyaus. It lias been ascertained that the party which set out consisted of nine men and a native, and search has been instituted for the missinw six. The bodies discovered Bhew death resulted from thirst. The Union Company's steamship Rotomahana arrived this morning from New Zealand. (Received January 2, 1.45 a.m.) The British Postmaster-General has at length adopted a scheme for the division of postage on the Australian letters, and tenders are being invited for the conveyance of mails according to the agreements with New Sontb Wales, Victoria, and South Australia. January 1. The demands of the wharf labourers not having been acceded to by the masters, the men have definitely decided to strike work, rejecting the proposal for 48 hours' work per week. Altogether 870 men are involved in the strike. The shipowners are takin» active steps to leplace the men locdly and on other colonies. The white labourers rely on the support of various trades unions. Mrs Sala, wife of the well-known journalist, died last night. Sydney, December 31. The Wakatipu sailed for Wellington this morning. The Alameda sailed to-day with the Homeward mails. At to-day's produce market a weaker tendency was observable in all descriptions of grain. New Zealand wheat is quoted at 3s Gd per bushel ; New Zealand oats at 2h od, while maize, per SGlbs., is worth 3s lOd. Sugar Com. pany's No. 1 remains £26 per ton. (Received January 2, 12.15 p.m.) January 2. Fine weather prevailed throughout the holidays, and the excursions and amusements were well patronised. The only fatal accident reported occurred yesterday, when a boat capsized in the harbour and four persons were drowned. The bodies are not yet recovered. (Received January 2, 1.30 a.m.) Bhtsbank, December 31. No fresh cases of,.sickness are reported on board the Dorunda. It is

hoped the precautious taken have wiped out the disease. Adelaide, December 31. The South Australian Government has given notice that this colony withdraws from the New Guinea guarantee, and the South Australian quota will be discontinued.
