CHRISTMAS SPORTS.

There was a fair attendance at the Town Hall last evening of gentlemen nominated on the Committee for carry, ing on the annual sports in the Recreation Ground at Christmas, viz.—The Mayor (who presided), Messrs Pierson, KUleen, Mulvihill, O. W. Andetson, Ziegler, Gr. Anderson, Walker, Howe, D. Callanan, Maloney, Gibson, and Rtidkin (Secretary). Messrs Pierson and Mulvihill reported having cauvassed Main street for subscriptions, and that their list amounted to .£29 ss. Messrs Killeen, O. W. Anderson, and Walker reported having canvassed Seddon street, and that their list amounted to £3B 4s. It was resolved that the subscription lists be kept open for another week, and also that the brewers be communicated with. A programme was drawn up with piizes to the amount of about £IOO, the same as last year. Mr Burger's name was added to the Programme Committee. An offer from the Brass Band to play at £lO 10s per day wa-* accepted, for two days, on the dates fixed, or as near as the weather pm mined of sports being held,

The tenders for booths were then opened, the result being that th' j tn - ders of O. W. Anderson for Booth N< . 1, £23, and Booth No. 2, £l9 were accepted. The tender of Mr Walker for fruit stall, £2 15s, was also accepted. The Ground Committee were instructed to yet the dancing floor laid, ind a stand for the Band erpcted. Messrs D. Callanau, Howe, and Mansfield were appointed h uidic.ippers for the various handicap events. Mr D. Callanan was appointed starter, Mr Howe Jodge, and Mr Etudkin Secretary. The programme is to be submitted to the Committee for approval this (Wednesday) evening. The meeting then adjourned to this Wednesday evening, at the Town Hall | at half-past eight o'clock.
