The Liberals have now secured 315 seats, while the Conservatives and Parnellites combined only returned 320 members. The Right Hon. Lord George Francis Hamilton, First Lord of the Admiralty, has been re-elected for the Earlin division of Middlesex, defeating Gordon Hogg by a large majority. John Pender, [Liberal] has been defeated for Wick District (Scotland) by the second Liberal candidate, Wallace White. For Waltbamston division, Essex South, Baring, the Conservative candidate, has been defeated by Buxton. (Received December 9, 1.30 p.m.) Later. It is generally understood that whatever is the final result of the e ections, Lord Salisbury will meet Parliament, and submit a programme of the reforms contemplated by the Conservative party. The steamship Doric has left for New Zealand. The New Zealand Shipping Company's Royal Mail steamship Tongariro, from Auckland, October 26th, arrived at Plymouth on Saturday, sth instant, after an excellent run of 41 days. Her cargo of frozen meat is reported to be in good condition. [special to press association. I London, December 3. In the sculling match between Courtney and Edgecumb, the latter was defeated. December 4. Mr Gladstone considers that an alliance between the Conservatives and the Moderate Liberals impossible. The captain of the Orient steamer John Elder denies that his vessel had a narrow escape from going on the rocks at TJshant, on Sunday last. The Standard states that the chance of the Conservatives obtaining a majority is hopeless. King Thebaw is proceeding to Calcutta. December 6. Two men, named M'Ardy and Greer, who absconded from Melbourne after embezzling money from their employers, have been arrested at Banbndge, County Down, Ireland. Italy has annexed Massowah, an Egyptian seaport on the Red Sea.
