A late cable message -states that both the Bulgarians and Servians show themselves indisposed to yield to the demands of the Powers for the conclusion of an armistice. The judgment in the appeal case, Ziegler and others (members of the Hospital Committee) v. Monckton, in which a verdict was given in the R.M. Court on the 10th July last for Dr. Monckton for £B2, has been allowed, with ,£lO 10s costs. The judgment, which is very gratifying to the Hospital Defence Committee, is given in another column. The Christchurch coach arrived this afternoon, with East Coast and Home mails. We have received a copy of the Union Steamship Company's Pocket Guide for December. Also, from Mr Martin, the Acting Postmaster here, the new Postal Time-table for the San Francisco Mail Service, 1885-86. The programme for the Christmas sports is published to-day and will be very enticing to all pedestrians, as the prizes for this, the most popular kind of sport, will be found all increased if compared with those of last year. The Brunnerton correspondent of the Grey River Argus wrote yesterday :—"A man named Edward Flaherty is missing from this district. He was last seen alive on Saturday, between half-past ten and eleven. A constable and others are dragging the river. Flaherty has been about eight months in the district. He is a single man, and formerly resided at Reefton." Never Return.—lt is said that one out of every four real invalids who go to foreign countries to recover health never return, except as a corpse. The undertakers, next to the hotel-keepers, have the most profitable business.
