The latest election returns show that 263 Liberals, 213 Conservatives, and 54 Parnellites have been returned up to the present. Mr Joseph Chamberlain [one of the th ree re-elected Liberals for Birmingham] addressed a public meeting at Leicester' last ever.ing. In the course of his speech lie referred to the probable state of parlies in the new Parliament, and predicted that fresh elections would take place at no distant date after the assembling of the new Parliament. Later. The total number of members elected up to the present is 560. The Liberals have a majority over the Conservatives of 54. Cairo, December 4. The natives in Upper Egypt are renewing hostile demonstrations. Yesterday they destroyed the Nile Railway line between Wady Haifa and Akesheh, near the Second Cataract of the Nile. Fifteen applications have been received by Sir Arthur Blyth, AgentGeneral for South Australia, for the position of Professor of Mathematics at the University of Adelaide, rendered vacant by the resignation of Professor H. Lamb.
