[special to press association.] London, November 26. A private meeting of creditors in the estate of Simes and Co., wool brokers, was held to-day. The meeting was of a stormy nature, and the creditors* prosent are very reticent as to what took place. It is believed that the liabilities of the firm will amount to nearly a quarter of a million. Already there are signs of troub'es in Spain. The Carlists and adherents of Queen Isabella are preparing to uphold their claim, while Senor Rtnz Zorilla, the leader of the insurrectionary movement in Spain in August, 1883, and who subsequently left the country, is now returning. The weekly returns of the Bank of England give the proportion of reserve to liabilities as 46 per cent. Total reserve in notes and bullion amounts to £12,900,000. November 27. The deficit in Simes' estate is about £70,000. The money of the firm was locked up in the Melrose estate, New South Wales, and to this is attributed their failure. Germany and England have admitted the claims of Spain to the Caroline Islands. It, is expected that the Prince of Wales will be present at King Alfonso's funeral. November 28. Pending the official statement in. bankruptcy of Simes and Co., the accounts show 3s 6d in the £, but it is expected, when the accounts are complete the amount will be less. £90,000 is due on the colonial estate. The Government Electrician is engaged devising a scheme to connect most of the colonies by cable, which will be under the control of the English Government. November 29. Obituary—Duke of Somerset, aged 80 years. Victorian stocks are rising. Don Pedro Emanuel Sagasta has succeeded in forming a new Spanish ministry, which includes Senor J. Fovella and Soler as Minister of War. The Basque Provinces and the Provinces of Castille and Andalusia are in a state of ferment. November 30. Senor Sagasta, P'i\sideiifc of the new Spanish Council of Ministers, is favourably inclined towards the conclusion of the treaty with England.
