(Received December 2, 3 p.m.) Calcutta, December 2. Further intelligence from Burrnah states that the British expeditionaryforce arrived at the town of Ava, where bat slight resistance was encountered. Hero General Prendergast was met by another embassy who announced the unconditional surrender of King Thebaw. (Received December 2, 9.30 p.m.) 6 a.m. His Excellency the Viceroy has received advices from Barman announcing that Mandalay is in the hands of the British. General Prendergast reports that the troops under his command entered the city yesterday without getting any opposition on the part of the Burmese. Earl Duffcrin has communicated witli Mr Bernard, High Commissioner of British Burmah, instructing him to take charge of Thebaw's territory temporarily, and administer provisionally in the Queen's name.
