He was crawling round a log, dragging his gun after him, when it ■went off, the charge entering his head. Dunedin, December 2. Bland and Dickson, brought back from Melbourne on eli:u-gps of embezzlement from their employers, were to-day committed for trial. Bland was also committed for trial on a second charge of stealing a gold watch, chain, and seals, the property of Stewart Dawson and Co. At the inquest on the body of Simon Hodge, it was proved deceased had been suffering from congestion of the brain. A verdict of temporary insanity •was returned. Napiek, December 2. At an inquest yesterday on the body of Margaret Nester, an inmate of the Lunatic Asylum, who had persistently refused, for forty days, to take food, the verdict was death from voluntary starvation. The four Maoris of Wairoa, who were suffering from the effects of eating bread in which strychnine had been put in mistake for soda, have recovered. The inquest on the body of the fifth Native resulted in a verdict of accidental death from poisoning.
