SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

A meeting of the School Committee was held in the Town Hall on Monday evening, 9th inst. ; present—Mr R. J. Seddon (Chairman), Messrs Burger, Barrowraan, Jamieson, Williamson, Voysey, and Campbell (Hon. Sec.). The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed, A letter from the Education Board was read and received. The following tenders for work required at the Kumara State School were received and dealt with :Mr H. Healey, labour only, £7 15s ; Mr C. F. Holmes, labour and material, .£l2 18s fid ; do., labour only, £7. The tender of 0. F. Holmes, for labour and material, was accepted, on condition that the piping be of 1-16 gauge iron, also that the piping be tarred. The Chairman and Messrs Jamieson and Voysey were authorised to see to the proper fulfilment of the contract.

The following memo to the Chairman Kumara School Committee, from the Westland Board, dated Hokitika, 15th October, was read and received : “ Your committee’s explanation of the circumstances attending the passing of Mr C. F. Holmes’ account for work done at the Kumara School, was read at the meeting held this day, and I am instructed to inform you that the Board is quite satisfied therewith. —John Smith, Secretary.”

Tire action of the Chairman in advertising a holiday on the 9th inst. was approved of.

The Chairman was also authorised to call, by advertisement, a public meeting to form a committee for getting up the usual picnic for the children on New Tear’s Day. The Secretary reported having received £9 13s, being the grant to committee for the quarter ending September 30, 1885. Accounts to the amount of £ls 7s 2d were passed for payment.
