MEETING OF JUSTICES OF THE PEACE.
In accordance with the “Justices of the Peace Act 1882 Amendment Act, 1885,” which requires that “ At noon on the second Monday of the month of November next after the passing of this Act, and thereafter at the same time and place in every succeeding year, the Justices of the Peace residing within a radius of three miles from the courthouse where a Resident Magistrate’s Court is held if within a borough, or within a radius of ten miles if such Court is not within a borough, shall meet at such courthouse and settle and determine amongst themselves a rota for their respective, attendance at such Court or (•!.«;(>who?o wh-ov iln-ir attendance will lio requited during the twelve months commencing on the first of January th<*n next -piis'ilng, and so as to apportion as equally and conveniently as may be the duty of attendance of
such Justices,” a meeting of Justices of the Peace for the Kumara Juslices district was held iu the Court House, on Tuesday last, Monday being a public holiday. There were present —Messis R. J. Seddon (who was elected Chairman), James Holmes, A. C. Campbell, Peter Dungan, and Henry Burger, J.Ps. The Clerk of the Court (Mr J. M'Ennis) informed the Justices present that T. R. Connell, Esq., J.P. owing to urgent business, could not attend ; at the same time he desired those present to be notified that any rota they agreed upon would be satisfactory to him. It was resolved —“That the Justices desire that a Resident Magistrate a Court should sit weekly at Kumara, and that Dr. Giles, R.M., be respectfully requested to give effect to this wish. Also that the Justices recommend that the day upon which such Court shall sit shall be on each Friday, at 10 a.ra., so that small debt cases may be dealt with.
The following rota was agreed upon ; Messrs R. J. Seddon, Jas. Holmes, and A. C. Campbell to transact ordinary business of the Court when required during the months of January, March, May, July, September, and November; and Messrs P. Dungan, FT. Barger, (or the Mayor for the time being), and 1. R. Connell to transact ordinary business during the alternate months of the year next ensuing. In cases of drunkenness or other minor offences, it was resolved that one Justice may deal with such case or cases.
