WESTLAND DISTRICT CHARITABLE AID BOARD.
A meeting of this Board, convened by the Governor in terms of the Act, was held in the Town Hall, Hokitika. yestetduy afternoon. All the four members were present, viz., Messrs Michel (in the chair), Grirumond, Jack, and Burger. The Times reports:— A telegram was received from the Premier, stating that the Government would pay all charges as hitherto up to Ist December next, after which date the Board must make its own arrangements. Several circulars of a formal nature were also read and received. Letters were received from Messrs Cuddeford and Wales, offering their services to the Board as Secretary. Mr Grimmond proposed and Mr Jack seconded, that Mr H. L. Michel be Chairman of the Board.—Carried. Resolved, that applications be invited from persons desirous of performing the duties of Secretary; remuneration to be £2 per week. Resolved, that the Government be communicated with in reference to the delay in forwarding subsidies to the Kumtira Hospital Committee, and asking when the amounts will be forwarded. Resolved, that the committees of the various institutions be communicated with, asking what amounts will be required for the maintenance of their respective institutions from Ist December, 1885, to 31st March, 1886. Resolved, that the various local contributing bodies be communicated with, asking for returns of the rateable value of properties situated within their boundaries. Resolved, that the Chairman and Mr Jack be empowered to procure a seal, and arrange for an office for the Board. Resolved, that the various banking institutions be communicated with in reference to the Board's banking account. The Board then adjourned until two o'clock on Monday, 16th instant.
