KUMARA HOSPITAL.

The usual fortnightly meeting of the Hospital Committee was held in the Town Hall on Tuesday evening; present — Messrs W. Morris (in the chair), Voysey, Wilclridge, Anderson, Rudkin, Watson, Burger, Ziegler, and Wooldridge. The minutes of the previous meeting were vend and confirmed. total number of patients treated during the month was 10, of whom three were discharged cured or relieved, two died, and five remained under treatment. Patrick Skehan, miner, and James M'Keegan, the boy who fell over a cliff and fractured his skull, had died. Frederick Andrews, and Alexander Reid were discharged cured ; and Albert H. Russell discharged relieved. Those who remained in the Hospital on the Slst ult. were Wm. Bain, Alex. Ballantyne, Fred. Draper, Glaus Bunz, and Jas. Wilson. But Mr Ross, the Wardsmau, or. Tuesday, put a postscript to his report to say that " Since the end of the month four more patients have been discharged, leaving only one patient (F. Draper) under treatment." The Secretary submitted a list, prepared by the Wardsmen, of the names of persons indebted to the Hospital for maintenance; and it was resolved that the same be revised and brought before the Committee at next meeting. A discussion took place regarding the conference lately held at Hokitika in reference to the working of the Hospitals and Charitable Institutions Act; and it was resolved that the Secretary write to the District Board notifying that the Committee intend to petition the Governor to incorporate the Kamara Hospital as a separate institution. Mr Rudkin moved—" That the Secretary be authorised to prepare and verify a petition to the Governor, praying for incorporation as a separate body, and that such petition, when completed, be forwarded." The motion was seconded by Mr Voysey, and carried. The following canvassers were appointed :—For the town, Messrs Morris and Ziegler ; for the Lead, Messrs Wooldridge and Rudkin, Voysey and Anderson. Messrs Morris, Voysey, and Anderson were appointed to interview the officers of the Benevolent Society, with the view of amalgamating with the Hospital Committee towards raising the .£IOO necessary before petitioning the Governor. Accounts to the amount of £6B 13s 6d were passed for payment. Receipts were handed in as follow : By Mr Voysey, £2 ; Mr Watson 10s; Mr Wooldridge, £2 10s; Mr Zmgler, £ll ss; Mr Rudkin, 10s; the Wardsman, £1 3s—total £l7 18s. This concluded the business.
