<+ — [united press association.] Wellington, November 3. The Zealandia with the October Colouial mails arrived in San Francisco on the Ist inst, two days in advance of due date. Th« Australia with LondonOctober mails, left 'Frisco for Auckland on the 24th ult., time-table date. November 4. Mr 11. C. Field, surveyor, of Wanganui, addressed a letter to Dr. Hector re Pohangina reefs, in which he reports unfavourably of the prospects, and doubts whether any gold or silver will be found there. Dr. Hector also isnot sanguine of any good results beiDg obtained. Bishop Redwood aud the Rev. Father G-utenoire and Sauzeau left for Sydney to-day per Tekapo. The United States corvette Enterprise leaves for New York via Valparaiso to-morrow. At a meeting of the Benevolent Society, the opinion of some of the members of the Committee with regard to the Hospital and Charitable Institutions Act is that the more it is perused the more inexplicable are some of its provisions, and the more unworkable it promises to be. The general impression appears to be that the Act would require to be amended in more directions than one next aessiou if it was intended to be reasonably workable. Dunedin, November 2. The Wairarapa is insured for £51,000, of which £19,000 is in the London, and £12,000 in the Colonial offices, and the Company's own risk is £20,000.
