NEWS. [REUTERS TELEGRAMS.] By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. NEW SOUTH WALES NEW GOVERNMENT. DISSOLUTION OF PARLIAMENT. (Received October 7, 9 p.m.) Sydney, October 7. The names of the members of the new Ministry were made known this afternoon, and are as follow:—Mr Dibbs, Sir Patrick A. Jennings, Messrs Farnell, Abbott, Trickett, Badgery, Wright, See, and Want. The New South Wales Parliament was formally dissolved this afternoon, and the writs for the general election have been issued. Sir Alexander Stuart, ex-Premier, has been appointed Commissioner for this colony in London for the forthcoming Colonial Exhibition. (Received October B', 1 a.m.) Sir A. Stuart has been called to the Legislative Council. The announcement that Sir Alexander Stuart has been appointed Commissioner for this colony at the Colonial Exhibition in London is premature. It is understood that Mr Dibbs and Sir Patrick Jennings will exchange portfolios. Mr Farnell will be appointed Vice-president of the Executive Council, and Mr Reid or Mr Slattery will be made Minister of Justice.
[Per s.s. Manapouri, at Bluff.] Melbourne, September 30. The wreck of the iron steamer Gulf of Carpentaria, as she now lies sunk about thirty fathoms deep off Bass' Straits, with the cargo, &c., was sold on Saturday to John Marshall and Co., for £250. At the meeting of the Gordon Memorial Fund it was decided to accept Mrs Thornycroft's offer to prepare a duplicate statue of General Gordon for Melbourne, for £2500. The wrestling match between Whistler and Miller took place in the Theatre Royal on Saturday last, resulting in a win for Whistler by two falls to nil. The first fall lasted nearly an hour, when Whistler succeeded in throwing Miller, holding him down. In the second encounter Whister adopted his old tactics of getting hold, by which his opponent must either give in or fracture a limb—Miller preferred the former. Every precaution has been taken in the event of an outbreak of small-pox to have the quarantine station in order and a a stafF of nurses, &c, ready. Sydney, September 30. In consequence of the re-appearance of smallpox in this city the Government has again proclaimed that all vessels arriving from the South must be examined by medical officers. A search is also being made for any missing passengers of the Ganga, a list of which has been received by the authorities. A meeting has been held in order to make preparations for the reception of Cardinal Moran on his arrival in Sydney.
