The Conference of Ambassadors of the Great Powers to the Sublime Porte which met in order to bring about an equitable and peaceful settlement of the RoumelianBulgarian difficulty commenced its sittings at Constantinople yesterday, and a cablegram states that a common decision has been ai’rived at, which will be laid before the Turkish Cabinet. The nature of the decision has not yet transpired. The ordinary meeting of the Hospital Committee will be held in the Town Hall this evening, at eight o’clock.
We have been favoured with the perusal of a copy of the report of the Commissioners appointed by Government to hold an inquiry into the circumstances which attended the appointment of Dr. Monckton as surgeon-superinten-dent of the Kumara Hospital, the termination of his engagement, and the appointment of his successor. It is a somewhat lengthy document. The result of the inquiry may be considered as altogether in favour of the Hospital Committee.

The West Coast Times to-day reports : u A rush set in yesterday afternoon on the Kanieri track between Davis’s boarding house and the Kanieri bridge, caused by Armstrong and party striking payable gold at a depth of twenty feet, on what is thought to be a continuation of the old Brighton Lead. The prospects are one grain to the dish, and the washdirt is five feet in thickness. There is a large extent of country in the neighborhood lying between the Rimu Lead and the Hokitika river. As the sinking is shallow, it is probable a great number will visit the ground.” Three candidates for the Hokitika Mayoral election are mentioned—Messrs R. Rae, Eisfelder, and Tait. The present Mayor (Mr Fowler) is also a probable candidate.
The poll held throughout the County of Buller, on the 28th ult., on the question of the erection of a bridge over the Buller at Westport, under the Roads and Bridges Construction Act, gives a majority in favor of the proposal. Charleston, Addison’s, South Spit, and Waimangaroa were each in favor, whilst Lyell gave a majority against.

Good Words—From Good Authority. * * * We confess that we are perfectly amazed at the run of your American Co.’s Hop Bitters. We never had anything like it, and never heard of the like. The writer (Benton) has been selling drugs here nearly thirty years, and has seen the rise of Hostetter’s, Vinegar and all other Bitters and patent medicines, but never did any of them, in their best days, begin to have the run that American Co.’s Hop Bitters have. * * We can’t get enough of them. We are out of them half the time. * * Extract from letter to Hop Bitters Co., U.S. A., August 22, ’7B, from Benton, Myers and Co., Wholesale druggists, Cleveland, O. Be sure and see
