[REUTERS TELEGRAMS.] By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. — ■ VICTORIAN DEFENCE MINISTER AND COMMANDANT. WANT OF HARMONY BETWEEN RESPECTIVE FUNCTIONARIES. INWARD SUEZ MAIL. (Received September 2,2 p.m.) Melbourne, September 2. Correspondence, extending over a period of eighteen months, between the Hon. F, T, Sargood [Minister of Defence] and Colonel T. R. Disney, Commandant of the Victorian forces, was laid upon the table of the Legislative Assembly last night. The letters give evidence of a complete want of harmony which existed for some time between them. Sargood objected to Disney taking reports to the Governor, Sir Henry Loch, as Commander-in-Chief, and afterwards insisted on all communications from Col. Disney being addressed to the Secretary of the Defence Department, instead of to himself. Sargood further states that he considers Col. Disney and other Imperial officers serving in Victoria as akin to members of the Civil Service. The Argns, commenting on the correspondence, characterises Mr Sargood’s letters as intolerably offensive, supercilious, arrogant, clumsy, and insolent sarcasm. Adelaide, September 2. The Orient Company’s Royal Mail steamship Sorata arrived this morning, from London.
