FIRE BRIGADE.

The Volunteer Eire Brigade held their usual practice meeting last night. The monthly meeting was held on the previous Wednesday evening, sth inst. ; ]irps»ent—Captain Burger, Lieut. Brayiihaw, Foremen Anderson, Smith and 0. Mnriha, Branch men Schul.stad, Stevenson and Close, Firemen M'Ewen, Ziegler, Adaruson, Life-Member Jas.

Valentine, and M. Gerraghty, Secretary. The minutes of the previous monthly meeting were read and confirmed. The Treasurer reported a credit balance of £l3 4s 2d. The balance-sheet for the six months ending August sth, was read and received, and oidered to lav on the table. The balance-sheet of Members Fond, for the six months ending August sth, was read and received. Mr 0. Gebhardt was unanimously elected a member of the brigade. Accounts to the amount of £2 16s were passed for payment. It was proposed by Capt. Burger and seconded by Fireman Stevenson—" That rule No. 26 be altered to read as follows:—'There shall be two general practices monthly, on the second and fourth Wednesdays in the month ; the first of which (on the Wednesday fnl'owing the monthly meeting) shall be compulsory, commencing at 8 o'clock sharp j failing to attend a fine to be enforced.' " —The motion was curried. The foremen of Engine Company and Hook and Ladder Company reported all gear under their charge in good order. It was resolved that a vote of thanks be accorded to the Auditors, Messrs Pearson and Rudkin. In reply to a question, the Secretary stated that he had signed an acknowledgment for the donation of two guineas from Mr M'Dermott, on behalf of the Post and Telegraph Department. Foreman Anderson proposed that Mr Jas. Howe be admitted a member of the Brigade ; investigating committee, Officers Schulstad, Murtha, and the proposer. Receipts to Members Fund were handed in, amountiug to £l, which concluded the business of the meeting.
