An outbreak of cholera has occurred at Marseilles of a serious character, and upwards of twenty cases are reported as ending fatally daily. Toronto, August 4. A destructive tire occurred here last night. The conflagration extended for fully half a mile along the water side, completely gutting a large number of factories, warehouses, and other buildings in its progress. The damage done cannot at present be estimated. [special to press association.] London, July 29. Mr Anthony Hordern’s application for concessions for the construction of a line from Albany to Beverley is deferred, pending the receipt of the Surveyor’s report. It is considered likely that Mr John Waddington .will, obtain the capital for the construction of a railway from York to Geraldton, in Western Australia. July 30. The frozen meat market is gutted. The Wellington and Manawatu Railway Loan of £160,000, being the remainder of the original amount of £560,000, has been placed in the market. The minimum has been fixed at £9B, and tenders will be opened on the 7th inst. A ngust 1, Tbe South Melbourne municipal loan of £BO,OOO, at 5 per cent., with a minimum of £lOl, has been placed in the market. Tenders will be opened on the 7th inst. In city financial circles October is considered the best time for the issue of ihe Sydney loan. Eighty million pounds were subscribed to the Egyptian loan. It is bebeved that Russia will keep the Zulfikar Pass question open until the next general elections, when they will endeavor to throw discredit on the Tories in. regard to the present negotiations. The New Zealand Shipping Company report that the E.M.S. Tongariro left Plymouth on Saturday for Port Chalmers. She calls nt Teneriffe and Cape of Good Mope en route. She is full of saloon, second-class, and steerage passengers.
